Overview

The purpose of this project was the creation of an eco-friendly product and packaging. The design had to consider all aspects of product life. The resourcing and disposal of materials, to the market sector that the product would be a part of. Woolly is not your ordinary furnace filter. It has the potential to be as effective, or if not more, than the current leading furnace filters on the market. Heavy research was conducted into the viability of the product to perform as well as the leading products within the market and results showed an intriguing high possibility of the natural materials such as wool and its effectiveness at eliminating harmful pollutants. It can do away with unnecessary waste and has the potential to make a meaningful impact towards fighting the global climate crisis.

When the package is folding into a box, a portion of it has a triangular opening to show customers the contents.Sketches of Woolly process work showcasing diagrams of a box. Deliverables

- Creation of a product package that takes into consideration monetary and eco-friendly costs in preparing the design.
- Creation of an apt product that represents this eco-friendly approach to design.
- Product mock up.
- Die-lines for packaging.
- Social media campaign.

Process Work

The key process for this project relied heavily on researching into specific environmentally friendly packaging solutions. The product solution was also researched extensively to demonstrate its viability as an alternative solution in a well established market of HVAC and filter related products. Much of the process work delves into construction materials for the product and packaging and how those two worlds can combine and work intrinsically with one another.

Results

The product and packaging demonstrates the highest form of environmental consciousness. The packaging itself contains all post consumer waste (PCW) recycled paper. PCW paper is sourced at the end of its lifecycle from various other products giving the packaging a uniquely textural Woolly feel to it. The printed material is made from water-based inks like soy that has a low volatile organic compounds (VOC) rating and makes for a very environmentally friendly design to manufacture and dispose of with peace of mind. All of these factors and principles were kept in mind for the design and functionality of the product.
