Vinyl Cover

Outrun this vinyl packaging design!

Overview

The goals of this project was to create two functional designs that relate to specific modern and post modern art movements. The key was to incorporate the art movements into the packaging design and on to the record label. The main artist and inspiration for this project was Tiesto, a famous underground house and techno artist.

Deliverables

- Designing two vinyl cover packages front and back that must showcase the talent and intent of a specific music artist. One specific album from an artist must be selected and the designs must follow the aesthetics of two art movements within the modern and post-modern era.

Process Work

Investigating into the history of the selected artist helped to establish multiple directions within the iterative phase of this project. The process eventually led to two top choices of designs for both eras and the remainder of work was spent on meticulously detailing the cover art to best represent the songs on the album and the artist. All the lettering was hand drawn out digitally primarily consisting of shapes and gradients.

Results

Both vinyl cover packages make use of elements heavily used in their respective eras regarding the modern and post-modern art movements. The overall designs encapsulate the tone found within the album. The first song on the list is "All Nighter" and this is showcased within the night and day juxtaposition or contrasting design. Respectively, each design has merits on its own, but both designs work together symbiotically to tell a deeper story, one that has depth, character, and connection.
